Conversely, a butler's role encompasses a broader range of responsibilities within a household setting. Traditionally male, a butler assumes the crucial duty of overseeing the wines and liquors within the household, ensuring proper inventory, storage, and presentation. Furthermore, a butler often serves as the chief servant, exercising authority and supervision over other domestic staff members in a large estate or household.

While both roles involve serving the needs of the household, the distinction lies in the scope of their duties and areas of specialization. Understanding these disparities sheds light on the intricacies of domestic service and the integral roles played by individuals such as the butler and valet.
